Meet Tim Douthit
My roots run deep in Madison County. I was raised in Huntsville . My grandfather was a public school teacher and later owned Off Campus Bookstore. My other grandfather was an aerospace engineer who worked with Wernher von Braun on the Saturn Program and later the Space Shuttle.
I'm the oldest of five children. I went to High School at Covenant Christian Academy (graduated 2003). I worked at the bookstore through highschool, then got a full academic scholarship to Troy University, where I majored in Business Administration (graduated 2007). I got a scholarship to Cumberland School of Law at Samford University. I was a member of Law Review, Moot Court Board, and a captain of the National Trial Team. I was selected the Best Advocate in my graduating class by the faculty. I graduated law school in 2010.
I spent a small amount of time in private practice, then took a job as a prosecutor at the Mobile County District Attorney's Office in 2011. There I prosecuted everything from drug crimes to murders, trying more cases than anyone else in the office. I was promoted to head the White Collar Crimes and Special Prosecutions Unit in Mobile, but my heart was always in Huntsville where my family was.
In late 2015 I moved back to Huntsville and took a job at the Madison County District Attorney's Office working in the Crimes Against Children Unit where I prosecuted child molesters and abusers. In 2017 I was promoted to the head of that unit. I simultaneously took on a violent crime case load, resulting in my prosecuting capital murders, home invasions, rapes, and armed robberies. I've put lots of very bad men in prison for the rest of their lives and have a number on death row. In 2021, I was made Chief Trial Attorney of the District Attorney’s Office. This put me in charge of managing the 25 prosecuting attorneys in the office. I continued to carry a violent crime case load, mostly prosecuting capital murders, kidnappings, home invasions, and crimes against children.
In January, there was a vacancy on the District Court bench when a local judge was promoted to a higher court. After interviewing numerous individuals, Governor Kay Ivey decided that my integrity, my courtroom experience, and my conservative values made me the best choice for the office. She appointed me to be Madison County’s newest judge. I immediately hit the ground running and have been working hard to ensure that my community is represented by a judge who reflects their values.
I am happily married to my college sweetheart, Joyce. She is easily the best thing that’s ever happened to me. We've been married for 16 years and have four children: two girls (14 and 13) and two boys (10 and 9). I am also the President of the Board of DIrectors of Covenant Christian Academy and a lifelong member of West Huntsville Baptist Church.
